Women’s Well-being: Our Origins.
My origins are Mexican, more specific a mix of North American Natives and European roots -inherited through our land’s colonisation-. I wasn’t born in privilege, as part of the middle class I was “destined” to work hard for a life, or for a dream, that might -or not- realize one day.
As a kid I was an athlete, competition was key to be able to advance to higher leagues. My education was demanding, I was asked to succeed no matter what, even if that implied little or not time for play. I had to fight for the attention of my parents and caregivers, as I was just one of many children being taken care of at my grandmother’s house. That non-stop pattern grew with me through all different phases of my life.
Fortunately I also have been nourishing my conscious self since little, my connection with my spirituality and community has been a constant in my life, and when the times are hard, I listen. I might not remember all the championships I won, or how I won them, not all the subjects or my grades in school, but I remember all the great friends I made, and experiences I lived with them.
Later down the years thanks to that connection, I realized that after a decade of climbing ladders in corporate, after non-stop-working during pandemic times and supporting others to recover from it, it was time for me to reflect on my purpose. The constant collective stress in the workplace generated a toxic environment, it was impacting the quality time with my family, the connection with my community, and also deteriorating my nervous system, a cascade of symptoms took over my physiology and mental health. I decided to stop, for the first time in my life.
I started a path of recovery and self-reinvention. And after few years, along the way I encountered a community of people whose very livelihood revolved around emulating nature. They were crafting innovative products, organizations, systems, and communities based on the age-old recipes of nature, perfected over 3.8 billion years. Inspired by their work, I went on a path to become a biomimicrist. In 2022, I graduated as a Certified Biomimicry Practitioner at Learn Biomimicry, with a new mission: to design and curate safe healing spaces for women afflicted by chronic stress and exhaustion, guided by the wisdom of nature.
The most incredible aspect of my journey was the insights I learned from studying over 17 living organisms. For example, how Dolphins use pods to nurture each other. Mole rats unveiled to me their "day care" system, where non-mothers care for the young of working mothers. Bristlecone Pines dispelled the myth of "non-stop is the way of growing" - as they prioritise longevity over growth in harsh conditions, making them the oldest trees of this planet. Forest revealed their interconnectedness, still how they manage to maintain essential boundaries. And also I learned we humans have another hyper-intelligent secondary brain, transmitting efficient signals to the brain to calm the nervous system, and it’s in our heart.
This was indeed my evolution toward the heart, where nature's heart intertwined with my own, and the new vision was to facilitate that connection for all of us. I begun to apply those nature’s recipes on my own and my health improved at a lighting speed. I crafted a blueprint of spaces— either tangible or inner ones — designed to alleviate stress and restore women's energy in a manner that mirrors nature's operational principles: adaptable, attuned, resourceful, organic, integrated, and replicable.
The next step was to integrate ancient healing arts I have learned such as Sound Healing in The Netherlands, Zen Buddhism in Japan, Ayurveda Health Programs at Chopra and in India, Mayan & Herbalists Sciences in Mexico or the Egyptian Mystery School at Mount Sinai. I also delved into modern disciplines like Biophilic Design, Neuroscience, Anthropology, Epigenetics, Heart Science, Psychology, and an immense array of integrated therapies. Through these explorations, I discovered a palpable common thread: nature has been our ancestral teacher for millennia, it was my task to translate this knowledge for the contemporary soul.
Given the pace of the modern world and the alarming number of women suffering, and even dying from stress, we urgently require efficient pathways to optimal well-being and restoring spaces for that to happen. This isn't about circumventing nature's wisdom; it's about recognizing that these timeless recipes are readily available. I have synthesized them into a framework that, when followed, guarantees recovery—a process that begins by identifying and creating our own safe space, or sanctuary, how I like to call it.
That is how KOKOXKALI was born, a name derived from Nahuatl meaning “Home of Health”, a genuine space where hearts connect, our life force is restored and transformed into the purest expression of our authentic, whole selves.
With KOKOXKALI I aspire to create a new culture of well-being, where our needs and safety are the priority. When we heal a woman, we heal the world.
